“Follow me…” Charles said as he greeted Toad at the door.
He followed him into the infirmary.
“HANK!” Charles called out as Toad placed Bella onto the examination table.
Bella looked to Charles in desperation.
“Charles, I can’t lose this baby! I shouldn’t have said what I said!”
Charles recoiled once he picked up on the meaning behind that.
“You wouldn’t be blaming yourself by chance, now would you?”
“Can’t you see the irony?”
He shook his head on this. Charles was quick to explain the situation once Hank entered the room.
“And you want me to what exactly?”
“Help her, Dr. McCoy. I know you can!”
Bella gritted her teeth and arched back in pain.
“Erik! He needs to be here. I need him here!”
The door flew open and he nodded her direction.
“Erik, the baby. Something’s wrong!”
“I know. I saw…”
Erik cut Charles a ‘look’ however as he was holding Bella’s hand. Charles cleared his throat and dropped his hold. Bella was sweating profusely and squirming about the table. Erik nudged Charles and leaned into his ear.
“Put her out.”
Charles nodded in understanding. He put his fingers to his temples and concentrated. He gazed upon Bella as he uttered the word “sleep”.
“I need to examine her…” Hank murmured towards Erik with slight fear in his eyes.
“Then do it!”
“I need her clothes off in order to do so.”
Erik looked to Charles.
Charles sighed and wheeled himself out of the room. Dr. McCoy tossed Erik a gown.
“I figured you’d rather…”
Erik made no comment and was quick to get her ready. He took notice of Dr. McCoy’s unsteady hands while examining Bella.
“Are you certain you know what you’re doing?” Erik snapped.
Dr. McCoy nodded but had this flustered mien about him.
“You had better…”
Hank cleared his throat and continued with the examination. Bella made his first ‘actual’ patient since they’d set up the hospital wing.
“What is it?” Erik asked seeing the look of alarm on his face.
“The infant’s heart rate has dropped significantly and Miss. Swan has lost quite a bit of blood.”
“And what does that mean exactly?”
“It means she’s in the midst of a miscarriage. There’s nothing we can do other than wait…”
“You mean to tell me that we’re losing the child?”
“And the mother?”
“I will know more about the mother once the infant fully passes. I’m very sorry for your loss.”
Erik staggered back and shook his head in disbelief.
“Just like that… You’re not even going to try?!”
“I’ve done all I can!”
Dr. McCoy gasped out as Erik grabbed him by the scruff of his lab coat.
“YOU’RE NOT TRYING HARD ENOUGH! DO SOMETHING!”
“Believe me, I wish I could!”
Erik slammed him back and looked upon Bella. He narrowed his eyes thinking back to her morning sickness and how his magnetic field seemed to put her at ease. But was it her or the child itself, he found himself pondering.
“I don’t believe I stuttered… OUT!”
Dr. McCoy nodded and ducked on out of the room. Charles recoiled once he saw Dr. McCoy in the hallway.
“I’m sorry. I wasn’t much help.”
“You did everything you could, Hank.”
Erik took off his jacket and tossed it into a nearby chair. He unbuttoned the sleeves to his shirt and rolled them up. Then he picked Bella up and took a seat. As he held her, Erik closed his eyes and focused. At first he thought he was seeing another vision, but it was Bella dreaming. Even with Charles putting her out, she was not at rest. The young woman was in agony and frightened but for the sake of their child. This had the man swallowing back as she was calling to him in her sleep, demanding that he do something. He hadn’t a clue as to why or how he was seeing this. Erik narrowed his eyes and brought his hand along her abdomen. He reared back as he swore it felt a bit strange. Almost as if there was some sort of current. And whatever it was… it was being pulled from him. The infant was feeding off his energy like that of a battery. When he comprehended what was taking place, Erik put forth even more. A smile formed across his face as the monitor kicked back to life and the bleeding stopped. The color in Bella’s face returned and Erik swore he felt the baby move. Something he thought to be impossible at four months along. But just as he was to put it off as to his imagination, he felt it again. A small chuckle escaped him.
“Erik?” Bella called as she came to.
He gave a simple nod.
“The baby!” Bella gasped as she shot up, reaching to her stomach.
“The child is just fine. You however need to rest.”
“We didn’t lose the baby?”
“No Isabelle. Everything’s just fine.”
Bella clamped a hand over her mouth and started to cry. Erik pulled her into his chest.
“You’re alright now, both of you.” He assured.
Erik disconnected the monitors and wrapped his arms around her.
“Close your eyes and get some sleep.”
“You should get back home. You know to the other woman in your life.”
“I’m not going anywhere, despite recent events.”
“And what if I don’t want you here?
“You can claim that all you want but you’d be lying and even if that were the case… I wouldn’t give you much choice on the matter.”
“But it is my choice…”
“That maybe but I’m just as stubborn as you are.”
“Why don’t we discuss our private affairs another time? Right now… You need to rest, if not for your sake then the child at least.”
“Fine! But I still hate you!”
Erik managed to smile.
When Bella woke the following morning, Erik had his hand latched onto one of her breast but he was sound asleep. Bella squirmed out of his hold and made her way to the bathroom. She gazed into the mirror with a grimace. The bottom portion of her gown was caked in blood. Bella took the gown off and staggered back. How on earth was the baby still alive?! The young woman thought looking to her legs and the area of her sex.
“Erik!” She hollered in a panic.
Erik jumped as he came to. He narrowed his eyes and glanced towards the bathroom.
“ERIK!” She called once again.
He hopped to his feet and rushed on in.
“I thought you said the baby was fine!”
“HOW?! Does this look FINE to you?!”
“Did I not promise to take care of you both?”
She reared back wondering what that meant exactly.
“I’m a man of my word, Isabelle. It doesn’t matter how… All that matters is that I kept my word and will continue to do so.”
“You did something, didn’t you?!”
Erik didn’t answer and started the shower.
He froze on her words and gradually spun back around.
“I’m not sure how, but I know it was you that saved our son. You don’t have to tell me anything. Just know that I’m grateful. Even if this wasn’t exactly ‘planned’, I couldn’t bear the thought…”
He nodded in perfect understanding and helped her into the shower. Bella blushed in response.
“Perhaps this isn’t such a good idea. Go home. You should be with Raven. I’m sure she’s wondering where you are.”
“That may be. But I’m right where I need and want to be.”
Erik leaned against the counter and folded his arms about his chest as Bella showered.
“I’ll be fine, you said so yourself. Dr. McCoy can help me take care of things from here.”
Erik rolled his eyes.
“Perhaps you should get your hearing checked!”
Bella pulled back the curtain and cut him a look. He cocked a brow at this.
“I believe I made myself perfectly clear.”
“Don’t you think you’ve created enough drama?! I mean seriously. Just how do you think she’ll react to this?!”
Erik gritted his teeth and marched on over. He got into the shower, fully clothed.
“For someone so incredibly intelligent, you can be subsequently ignorant!”
Her jaw dropped and she placed her hands along his chest as he was backing her up against the wall.
“There isn’t anyone waiting for me back at the house.”
Erik tilted his head as she started tearing up yet again.
“You thought what?”
“I thought you chose her…”
“Well you were clearly mistaken.”
“But the way you looked at her in comparison to me!”
Erik sighed on this.
“When it comes to you and Raven there is no comparisons to be made. You are two different women entirely. What you saw was a glimpse of what Raven and I used to have. And that’s all it was I assure you. It’s unfortunate but it’s truly in the past, where it belongs.”
“Do you love her?”
“Like I said… there is history. So yes, I love Raven. But it’s not adequate enough to become anything more than that. And it wasn’t long after you left that I made that discovery.”
“Dare I ask how?”
“Are you insinuating what I think you are?”
“Fine… Did you fuck her, Erik?!”
But the guilt ridden expression said it all.
“But you came close…”
He recoiled but nodded.
“I knew it!” Bella shouted and went to exit the shower.
Erik stopped her and looked her in the eyes.
“I won’t stand here and lie about what took place!”
“I wanted her! Or at least that’s what I thought. But there was only one face that came to mind!”
“Is that supposed to make me feel better?”
“YES, AS A MATTER OF FACT! THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED! YOU THINK I TAKE PLEASURE IN WHATEVER IT IS YOU’RE DOING TO ME?! THIS ISN’T WHO I AM! AND THESE VISIONS OR WHATEVER THEY ARE… IT’S MADDENING AND FOR WHATEVER REASON, THEY ONLY PULL ME TOWARDS YOU BECAUSE I FIND MYSELF WANTING MORE, NO MATTER HOW TORTUROUS THEY BECOME. THERE’S THIS CONSTANT NEED.”
Bella said nothing. She stepped out, grabbed a towel, and wrapped it around her. Erik turned off the water and stepped out as well. Bella headed into the infirmary where Charles and Hank were talking. They looked over and Charles reared back as Bella made her way over. She grabbed a fistful of his hair and her lips locked with his. Charles had this struck stupid presence about him and Hank staggered back as everything metal within the room started to bend.Erik was hovering off the ground and eyeing Charles with absolute hatred. When Bella finished she put her forehead to Charles’s. Charles was in another world at the moment and his hand was planted along her ass.
“ENOUGH!” Erik barked and the entire room shook as metal objects were flying about.
Bella shot up and spun back around facing him.
“It’s like having your heart ripped out and someone spitting in your face directly after, isn’t it?! Like I said before Erik, I don’t play games!” She looked to Charles and sincerely apologized. He nodded but was still flabbergasted by what took place. Bella went to exit the room but Erik was quick to lock everything down.
“You’re in no condition to be going anywhere. Not until Dr. McCoy gives you that clean bill of health!”
“Oh my stars and garters…” Bella heard Dr. McCoy utter as he was looking at the baby through the sonogram.
Bella smiled as he pointed out the baby and they could hear the healthy heartbeat.
“So everything’s fine?”
He nodded looking completely baffled. Meanwhile, Charles and Erik seemed to be in some sort of silent conversation.
“Would you like to know the sex?”
“It’s a boy…” Erik and Bella chorused.
Hank pushed his glasses up and nodded.
“I suppose someone already told you?”
“More like we just knew…” Bella replied with a shrug.
“And what of she?” Erik hinted and Hank nodded in response.
“Miss. Swan is in good health as well; however I strongly advice that you take it easy from here on out. You and the child have been through a great deal. It would be wise not to push yourself.”
“Another words… don’t be so quick to decline help from others when offered and don’t be too prideful to ask for help when needed.” Charles put out there.
“Couldn’t agree more.” Erik added.
“I need you to take a break and focus on the child.”
“Take a break?”
“I believe you know what it is I’m saying.”
“After that whole speech about NOT stepping down! And now you’re pretty much telling me to!”
“That’s not what I’m saying and you know it. But at the moment OUR son needs to be YOUR first priority.”
“So I’m supposed to put everything on hold, if I don’t it makes me a bad mother?!”
“Isabelle…” Erik uttered with hesitation.
“Perhaps if we were to show her, she’d have a better understanding?”
Erik sighed but nodded in agreement. Charles grabbed the phone and called for one of the students to bring them a TV and set it up in the hospital wing. Once Bella saw what it was they were referring to, her jaw damn near hit the ground. There were riots happening all over town, mutants, and humans standing against one another. Then you had one the ones that supported Bella – that being of mutant and human kind and they were doing their best to stop the rioters. Some used her name to support the violence while others used it as a reason to stand against mutants and anyone supporting them. Police were spread about and doing their best to keep the situation under control, but it was no use. Things had gotten way out of hand. Bella rose from the examination table and adjusted the gown they had her in.
“I caused all this…” She murmured and Erik gritted his teeth.
“You did no such thing!”
“Look at them, Erik! Each of them uses my name as some sort of form of hatred and violence. This is NOT what I stand for. THEY ARE WRONG!”
“And just think of what would happen if you were exposed!”
“So I’ve no choice but to accept failure?! Is that what you’re telling me?!” She gestured towards the TV.
“How can I turn my back to this, on any good conscience? People are dying!”
“You’ve done your part. And now it’s time for us to do ours.”
“And what do you mean by that exactly?”
Erik cupped her chin and looked her in the eyes.
“We simply point out the error of their ways…”
“And through what means exactly, more violence?”
“I suppose you’ll see soon enough.”
“You’ve more than done your share of standing up for mutant kind. Now it is time for us to do the same in return.” Xavier said.
Hank and Erik nodded in full agreement.
“Keep saying it Charles, it doesn’t make it any truer!”
“Remind me not to get on your bad side. You certainly have a way of holding a grudge.”
“GRUDGE?! Is that what you call this?”
The professor nodded.
“My feelings towards Erik have nothing to do with holding a grudge.”
“I beg to differ.”
“Beg all you want.”
Charles cocked a brow at this.
“Very well then, let me take you on a date.”
Bella stopped in her tracks and Charles whipped around in that wheelchair of his.
“After all we’ve already kissed.”
Bella blushed remembering how he kissed her in return. To top it off Charles was one hell of a kisser. In fact she found it rather hard to pull away, even if it were in attempts to get back at Erik.
“We might as well go all out and make it official.”
“Make what official?”
“You and I… I might be in this chair but I can assure you. I’ve other means of showing a lady such as yourself a wondrous time.”
Bella narrowed her eyes in question.
“Please allow me to give you a demonstration.”
Charles put his fingers to his temples and focused. Before long, Bella gasped back and braced herself up against the wall. She’d visions of her and Charles making out, heavily. He had her in his lap and she could actually feel the sensation of grinding against him. Charles chuckled afterward.
“What in the hell was that?” She questioned as she was out of breath.
“Just a little preview… just imagine if I’d gone all out.”
Her jaw dropped in realization. Charles himself couldn’t believe what he was doing. But he’d grown desperate in getting his point across.
“Did you just mind rape me?”
“Not even close. I was a perfect gentleman in comparison to what you pulled. Let’s be honest. You didn’t kiss me because you wanted to. You did that because you were mad and wanted to hurt Erik. And you knew the best way of going about it was for him to see you kissing an old friend of his. However, I doubt either of us expected to actually enjoy it. That was one hell of a kiss, Miss. Swan.”
Her entire face flushed over and Charles sent her a wink.
“But that also stays between us. That being said, whatever you and I shared… It’s nowhere near in comparison to what you and Erik have. If you’d quit being so angry and fighting it, you’d see that. The both of you, so stubborn.”
“I’ve already told you. I want nothing to do with that man. He’s the father to my child, nothing more.”
“All lies…” Charles said with a smile and pointed to his head.
“It might be a bit of a struggle, getting into that head of yours. But it can be done, nevertheless. And I know you’re scared.”
“Scared of what?” She spat.
“Giving into Erik. You don’t wish to come off as vulnerable in anyway. And you’re afraid of getting hurt. Who can blame you? Erik’s done more than his share as of late. But that’s the irony. You’re both so much alike when it comes to these sorts of things. The both of you put up this wall and neither is willing to let it down. But doing that will only cause you both a world of grief. You and Erik are meant to be and always were. There is history that no one can touch. And sooner or later you will see that.”
“Erik could never love anyone more than he loves himself.”
Charles had a good laugh at this.
“About a year or so ago I would’ve certainly agreed. But he’s not the same man. Like you, he’s been through a great deal and has seen so much pain. And like you, Erik deserves some happiness in his life. His biggest downfall is being his own worst enemy.”
“I already tried that… then Raven came into the picture. No, I take that back. She was already in the picture. So if you really think about it, she has every right to hate me! I was the other woman! The home-wrecker so to speak. There’s nothing left to say on the matter.”
“Home-wrecker?!” Charles uttered with a chuckle of mere amusement.
“I do believe you are the furthest thing from a home-wrecker.”
Bella rolled her eyes on this.
“What else would you call it?”
“Raven was gone for nearly a year, without so much as word as to where she went and with no mention if she were coming back or not. This is what she does… Raven has proven time and time again that she isn’t very dependable, especially when others are counting on her.”
“Now that sounded almost personal.”
Charles nodded and looked to be in thought.
“I suppose it is somewhat…”
Bella drew back a breath and shook her head.
“Is there something else?”
“You and Erik have so much history with this mutant and yet my mannerisms…”
“Don’t. You have every right to feel the way you do.”
“Do I? Because from my understanding she was here first and here I am fucking her man and kissing her supposed brother.”
Charles smiled and sort of laughed.
“Well if my sources are correct you and Raven have history as well.”
“I have the feeling you know way more than you’re letting on. Why won’t you just tell me?”
“I know enough but I do not know everything. And these things… you have to use caution with. We are dealing with not only the present, but the future and the past. Just one wrong move or decision could drastically change events whether they be for the better or worse. Just you being here changes things.”
“But I’m from this era…”
“That you are but with more knowledge of the future than anyone I know. In fact I’d even go as far to say that you know more than I do at this point.”
“But you know of the past.”
“Of, being the keyword. I do not know the past in general, at least not where you’re involved. If I didn’t know better I’d say our memories were wiped clean. And I’d be willing to bet that was after the events in which you were reborn. Something drastic must’ve taken place.”
“Such as my death.”
Charles narrowed his eyes on this.
“Think about it… You all remained here, but with no recollection of me or the child. I was reborn… There must’ve been a ripple somewhere. Something went wrong. My son and I…” Bella drew back an uneasy breath.
“Were meant to die and never come back.”
“I don’t believe so…”
She tilted her head.
“If you were truly meant to die then why are you here? These things they happen for a reason. We need to find out how you died and go from there.”
“And how do you suggest we do that?”
“Well for starters getting you and Erik together would be beneficial.”
“I already told you…”
“I’m well aware. But that isn’t necessarily what I mean. What I’m trying to say is I need you in the same room. And I need yours and Erik’s permission to dive in a little deeper and see if there is anyway of triggering something, whatever it may be. Every little bit helps.”
“You mean as in getting into our heads?”
“I’m not so sure I like the sound of that.”
“I get that you’re a very private person. And you’re right; I should’ve asked your permission beforehand. But something tells me you would’ve denied me such access if I had.”
“You’d be correct. Those are my private thoughts, Charles.”
Bella staggered back as someone else came to mind.
“Is something wrong?” He questioned taking notice.
“That just reminded me of someone.”
“That vampire from the future.” But as she said this even she heard the coldness to her voice.
“You mean the telepath?”
“Hmmm. I’m starting to wonder if he is the reason I’m having such a hard time connecting with you.”
“I doubt it considering he couldn’t read me.”
“But I can read you… it just takes a bit more focus. I can feel you pushing me out, which is highly intriguing considering you are not homosuperior. However, I will say you have a touch of something, that much is certain.”
“That’s an understatement if I ever heard one.” But as Bella said this she put a hand against the wall and closed her eyes for a moment.
“…dammit…” Charles heard her whisper.
“Perhaps I should give you a lift.”
Bella turned his direction and laughed as he patted the area of his lap.
“Oh Erik would love that…”
“I imagine he would. Now come along. I’ll take you to the cafeteria where we can get you something to eat.”
Bella made her way over and Charles pulled her into his lap. She snorted and ran her fingers through his hair as something else came to mind.
“Now that’s just downright cruel…,” he hinted knowing damn well where she was going with that.
“So you know…?”
“And how do you feel about that?”
“Well Miss. Swan what do you think I’m more upset about, losing the use of my legs or going bald?”
“Do you blame him?”
He cut her a rather puzzled look.
“You know… Erik.”
“He told you?” Charles asked looking somewhat stunned.
“Yes… he blames himself.”
Charles drew back a breath on this.
“At first, I admit I had some ill feelings and often found myself wondering if he had done it intentionally.”
“Why would you think that?”
“Let’s just say the Erik you know now is not the same the Erik from then.”
“I believe I’ve seen bits and pieces of him.”
“I’m quite sure you have.”
“Such as his unpleasant feelings towards humans…”
“Ah yes… that’s most certainly a glimpse of Magneto.”
“And there it is again…”
“And what would that be?”
“That name ‘Magneto’. Morti mentioned it once before.”
“It is another alias of Erik’s.”
“Why would he need another alias?”
“Most of us mutants do, the ones involved with the academy in particularly. Erik would be one of those. However most of his time was spent leading what was known as The Brotherhood. Though they were not exactly evil; they weren’t known for their good intentions either. There was a time that Erik truly believed that we as mutants rose above all. Humans were meant to serve us, as nothing more than slaves, and we were meant to rule the world.”
“Not evil, huh? And this most certainly isn’t helping me in seeing the light when it comes to Erik.”
Charles smiled on this and Bella crawled on out of his lap as they were in the cafeteria now. She and Charles grabbed a tray of food and sat at one of the tables.
“Let’s just say it wasn’t long after that Erik gave into Raven…”
Bella held up a hand on this.
“I keep hearing that. What does that mean exactly? The whole ‘giving into’ Raven’?”
Charles drew back a breath on this.
“It was no secret that Raven saw something in Erik and vice versa. However at the time she was much too young or so Erik felt, which in all honesty she was. Erik respectfully declined her ‘offer’ but let her know that perhaps there was a future for them further down the road. Both went about their separate ways and dated other people. Well that time most certainly came and that’s where the giving into Raven comes in. Erik was always somewhat hesitant, not so much of Raven but of any woman for that matter. It’s not like Erik to commit to anyone.”
“So I’ve noticed…”
“Well he most certainly committed himself to Raven. In fact it’s one of the few times he actually confided in me and let me know his intentions.”
“And that being?”
“Are you certain you want hear all this?”
“I’m grasping at straws over here. I need to know these things. Don’t you think?”
Charles picked at a roll on his tray and there was a solid minute of silence.
“Charles… Help me out here.”
“You know I want to. But I fear it may do more damage than good.”
“If Erik is to become my future. I have the right to know these things.”
“You’re right but it should come from him.”
“You honestly believe he’s going to sit me down and tell me about his and Raven’s past?!”
“Let me ask you this. Would you tell him about you and Edward?”
“I already have. Erik knows damn near everything about me. Yet I know so little when it comes to him.”
“He’d put another bullet in my spine if he knew…”
“I wouldn’t let him.”
“Says the human…” Charles teased with a hint of a smirk.
“Don’t you even start.” She scoffed but with a smile.
Charles sipped at his drink and leaned back.
“Erik truly believed Raven to be the one. And he thought this from the moment he first met her.”
Bella recoiled and Charles sighed.
“Do you see what I mean about damage?”
“I’m fine. Go on…”
“Raven always was insecure when it came to her true self. I tried reaching out to her. But Erik had more of an impact on her. She tended to key in on his every word. She was young and scared and there was so much anger. Erik saw Raven for who she truly was and saw the beauty in the mutant known as Mystique. They had a bond that no one dared to interfere with and this was before they were even an item. When I mentioned how Erik came to me… That’s what it was about. He wanted my advice, believe it or not.”
“How to make it work with Raven…”
Charles drew back a breath and dug into his pocket. He set something down on the table and Bella cringed.
“He was going to propose?!”
“The very day she left…”
Bella picked up the ring and regarded Charles in thought.
“Why do you have this?”
“He gave it to me about a month or two after her random disappearance. He told me if she ever came back and wanted to make things work again to give him that ring.”
Bella let out a miserable laugh.
“He wanted to shove it in her face. To let her know what she could’ve had.”
“I can’t believe he came to you…”
“Erik wasn’t quite himself when Raven left. It was the lowest I’d seen him. In fact I hadn’t seen him genuinely smile until you came into the picture. And the day you made a mess of my wheelchair and clothes; was the first time I’d heard him laugh in over a year.”
“It’s beautiful.” Bella remarked as she thoroughly looked the ring over.
“It was his mother’s.”
The young woman closed her eyes on this. Charles gave a simple nod and merely waited… Bella shot to her feet and pointed to Charles rather accusingly.
“This is my ring! He was going to propose with my ring?!” Bella’s eyes widened and she reared back in utter surprise. She couldn’t believe how she reacted. But that vision… with the ring. She knew it all too well.
He raised his brows and used his hand to cover his smile.
“I’ve seen it before… In a vision.” She murmured more calmly.
Bella reached to her temples in confusion.
“I don’t understand…”
“But we’re getting somewhere. Now aren’t we?”
“Dammit Charles, just what game are you trying to play here?!”
“It’s no game and you’re correct. That was your ring. But it belonged to his mother.”
“What are you saying?”
Charles took another ring out from his pocket.
“THAT was the ring intended for Raven. It came from one of the fancy jeweler’s downtown.”
Bella placed a hand over her heart.
“Charles…” she pleaded with desperation.
“It’ll come to you. Give it time.”
“I can’t believe you!”
He sighed on this.
“I had to test you and please sit down before you pass out on me.”
She curled her lip on this but sat back down.
“I can’t believe you pulled that shit.”
“You’ll thank me… one day.”
Charles cleared his throat on this.
“And The Brotherhood?” Bella asked behind a low growl and threw her roll at him.
“He wished to lead them alongside of Raven. But when she up and vanished, along with that of his heart, those plans eventually fell through and The Brotherhood became no more. Erik kept to himself and started drinking and this continued until you came into the picture.” He said whilst putting the roll back on her tray.
“So her leaving is the only thing that kept him from going full on evil?!”
“I’m certain other things played a factor as well.”
“But she comes into the picture and he’s considering putting the Brotherhood back together?”
“Where’d you get that?”
“I can see it in your eyes. You’re concerned and it hasn’t anything to do with me at the moment.”
“I’m honestly not sure what Erik’s plans are. But I am more than certain he is planning something.”
“But he and Morti…”
“Are out their standing behind your cause?”
“I hope for your sake that’s what they’re doing.”
“But you said…”
“I know what I said, but Erik let me know I wasn’t welcome to join them and this was something he wanted to handle personally. That, and he…”
“Wanted me to keep an eye on you.”
Charles nodded and sipped on his tea.
“Erik wanted you to watch over me?”
“He’s quite taken with you and he’s very protective of you and the child within.”
“So there’s a chance of Erik making matters worse than what they are already?”
Charles let out an apprehensive chuckle.
“There’s always a chance of that when it comes to Erik. But I suppose what he needs is for us to give him a chance and to have some faith in him. After all, if it wasn’t for Erik the child would be no more.”
The two ate in silence and just as Bella was taking her last bite of food someone appeared beside her and snatched an apple off her tray. Bella smiled as he was quick to disappear. The young woman breathed in the area around them.
“Is that… brimstone?”
Charles nodded. She clamped a hand over her mouth and died of laughter as the mutant appeared up on the ceiling. He was using his tail to hold the apple and smiling her direction. Bella came to her feet and made her way over. She held her hand out and the boy dropped the apple into the palm of her hand.
Bella handed the apple back.
“You can have it.”
The azure mutant boy nodded.
“How old are you?”
Bella smiled on this.
The boy dropped down and gave her an odd glance.
“Is something wrong?”
“Aren’t you scared?”
“Now would I be?”
“Because you’re one of them…”
Bella drew back a breath and hunkered down to his level. She offered her hand.
“I’m Bella… and you are.”
“I like that name, Kurt.”
The boy smiled showing off his little fangs. He took a bite off the apple and Bella reached over moving his hair away from his eyes.
“They’re glowing…” She whispered looking to be in awe.
“Your eyes… they remind me of someone.”
Bella dropped her hand and tilted her head. She snapped Charles a look and he nodded.
He shook his head no and Bella’s jaw dropped.
“She has a son?!”
He nodded once again.
“Who is Erik?” The boy questioned and Bella forced a smile.
“Just some metalhead I know. He likes it when people call him Maggie. Just don’t tell him I said that.”
Charles had a good laugh at this.
“You’re very pretty.”
“Awe well thank you.”
“My mommy’s coming to visit today.”
As he said this Bella took notice of the look on Charles’s face.
“Is she now?”
“Yes. She saved me and brought me here.”
The young boy nodded.
“I’m going to go play now.”
Before she could utter another word brimstone filled the air and Bella shook her head in disbelief. Charles cleared his throat.
“She’s been promising to see him for a little over a month now.”
Bella rose on his words.
“Everyday… he says the same thing. And she’s yet to walk through those doors. Yet you can see it in his eyes. She hangs the moon and stars.”
“And what did he mean by ‘saving’?”
Charles told her the story behind Kurt Wagner. Raven had given him up as a baby due to others thinking him a demon. She didn’t return until she learned he was sold to the circus and being treated as a mere entertainer. The boy was forced to perform to their satisfactory and locked in a cage where humans often paid to see the attraction known as Nightcrawler. This had taken place recently. Meaning that’s where Raven had run off to. Once Charles finished his story, Bella wiped a tear from her eye.
“That’s gotta be the saddest thing I’ve ever heard. And I’m sorry to say but what she did doesn’t make her a hero. It was her responsibility as a parent. That makes twice in which she’s turned her back to him. And now she has you and this academy raising him. Something tells me she didn’t give you much choice.”
Bella’s hands balled up into fists.
“How can you turn your back to your own child? No matter the circumstances, she should’ve found a way and she could’ve if she really wanted to, but she clearly had more important things to…” Bella trailed off and cleared her throat.
“Please excuse me…”
He nodded as Bella headed on out the door. She was overcome with emotion and couldn’t hold it in anymore. Part of that she knew was the pregnancy. The other? Was looking into that boy’s eyes and knowing Raven was going to break his heart, just as she had Erik’s. He was too young to comprehend what was taking place at the moment, but one day he would. And she couldn’t help but to feel for him.
He lifted his eyes and looked on in surprise as Bella entered the door.
“I thought I told you to stay at the mansion…”
“I know but I had to see you.”
“Is everything alright?”
She made her way over and sat on the couch across from him.
“Did you really mean it?”
He downed the rest of his drink and sit the empty glass on the coffee table.
“And that would be?”
“What you said… you know today during the riot.”
Erik looked to be in thought.
“So you heard?”
“You said it in front of thousands, Erik. Everyone heard.”
He had this apprehensive look about him.
“I wasn’t aware you had…”
“I want to hear you say it. Just say the actual words, Erik.”
“You’re a needy little thing, aren’t you?”
Bella came to her feet and walked on over. She welcomed herself into his lap.
“Is it really that hard to express yourself? It’s just us… Three little words. How harmless can they be?”
Erik rather sighed and put his forehead to hers.
He closed his eyes and drew back the deepest of breaths.
“And if I say them will you actually believe me and stop this nonsense?”
“Maybe…” she said as she ran a hand along his chest.
Erik caressed the apple of her cheek and looked her in the eyes.
“I love you.” He said and proceeded in kissing her.
He grabbed a fistful of her hair and the kiss grew even more passionate.
“I love you, Isabelle.” He murmured once again.
“More than you’ll ever know. I need you to know that.” But as he said this he sounded somewhat peeved.
“Erik…” she whimpered as he was squeezing her arms.
The front door opened and he snapped a look that direction. Charles grimaced and Bella clamped a hand over her mouth. Raven was in Erik’s lap, naked, and in her true form. And in what ‘looked’ to be an intimate setting before he even had the chance to explain, Bella had taken off. Charles sighed.
Erik backhanded the imposter.
“Did you think I didn’t know?! I knew it was you… From the beginning! Why do you think I said those things?”
Erik shoved her off him and pointed upon her.
“I’ll deal with you later…”
“Don’t let her out of your sight!” He barked as he passed Charles at the door.
Erik hollered as she was running towards the car she and Charles arrived in. Just as she reached for the door handle, it locked. She gritted her teeth but she was quick to gasp out as she was lifted up off the ground and being pulled Erik’s direction. When she looked over he’d this look of determination and pain. He held his arms out and she could actually feel the magnetic field around her drop. He caught her directly after.
“If you had stayed just a second longer you’d had seen the truth!”
“And that being?!”
“That it was a set up!”
“Think about it… Think about what you REALLY saw. If you think the look on my face had anything to do with Raven then you don’t know me as well as I thought! Look past your own pain and see that you’re not the only one hurting!”
He swallowed back she wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him close. Erik closed his eyes and took a moment to breathe her in.
“Why are you and Charles here anyhow?”
“I wanted to grab a few more of my clothes and was hoping you’d be here, considering you never returned.”
“I just needed sometime, that’s all. I’d plans of checking in later tonight.”
“I don’t want nor do I need an apology. I know asking for your trust is a bit of a tall order considering… But I hope to gain it sooner than later. Now if you’ll excuse me I have other matters to tend to, but this… is far from done. Understood?”
Bella nodded once again and Erik pecked her on the lips as he placed her back down. He took her hand and they headed back inside. Erik sat Bella in his recliner and pivoted back around. He paced the area as he was eyed Raven down. She rolled her eyes and that only set him off.
“Don’t…” he growled in such a way that sent Bella chills. Charles took notice of this and wheeled himself closer to her.
“Don’t you come into this house and pretend to be someone else and sass me once you get caught. You haven’t any idea, Raven. You sit there just as calm as can be. But if you had ANY inkling in just how ANGRY I truly am, you’d be running about now. Within the short time of your return you’ve managed to FUCK me over and in every which way you can think of. And yet you claim to love me?! How can you claim such a thing when you go out your way to sabotage me? I don’t take kindly to betrayal and by someone I once held dearly. I get that we don’t exactly see eye to eye now. But that gives you NOOOO RIGHT. Your behavior is like that of spoiled child and yet you mock my human companion as if she’s somehow BENEATH YOU! I don’t see Isabelle going out her way to cause trouble. No Raven, you did that all on your own. Are you not embarrassed by your own actions? This is HIGHLY unacceptable. You have lost ALL my respect, trust, and ANY feelings I had… You’ve managed to smother. I’m done! NOW GET OUT! YOU’RE NOT TO STEP FOOT IN THIS HOUSE AGAIN. IF YOU SO MUCH AS COME NEAR MY HUMAN COMPANION, I WILL MAKE YOU REGRET THE DAY WE MET. DO NOT TEST ME! YOU AND I ARE DONE, RAVEN. HAVE YOURSELF A GOOD LIFE!”
And on this note he sent her flying right on out of the house. He locked everything up directly after. Charles looked on in disbelief wondering how he managed to send Raven flying out like that. Had his magnetic pull grown so powerful he was able to focus on that of nature itself? The mere idea was enough to send Charles into shivers. He wasn’t so sure he liked the idea of Erik being THAT powerful. Erik poured himself another drink and downed it. Bella grimaced as he tossed the glass aside and went straight for the bottle instead.
“Erik…” She softly called.
“What?!” He snapped but was quick to catch himself.
He spun around but with this apologetic glance. Bella walked on over.
“That’s enough…” she whispered and took the bottle from his hold.
Erik took them both by surprise… Bella swallowed back as he grabbed ahold of her and broke down. Bella said nothing as she held him in return.
“After everything… this is how she repays me?”
Bella hadn’t a clue what to say or do even. She led him to his recliner. Erik took a seat and dried his eyes. Bella looked to Charles as if lost on what to do next. He gave a mere nod.
“Perhaps now is as good a time as any.”
She drew back a breath on this.
“Are you sure?”
“Absolutely. Why don’t the two of you sit on the couch and we’ll get started.”
“And what would that be exactly?” Erik questioned.
“I’ll explain once the two of you are situated.”
Erik drew back a hesitant breath but joined Bella on the couch.
“I’m sure two of you have a lot of questions when it comes to these visions. As you already know these aren’t just any visions. They are glimpses of a past in which the two of you once shared. This is why they become more prominent when the two of you are in contact with one another.”
“Past…?” Erik uttered with a hint of a chuckle.
“Yes Erik. How else would you explain the pull you have towards Miss. Swan?”
“It’s like I told her already, I attract things.” Erik witted and Bella smiled.
“He has a point.”
“Thank you!” Erik remarked.
“For once I don’t believe your gift hasn’t anything to do with the effect you have over this young lady.”
“And you thought I was boring…”
“Hmmm… yes, well I feel to warn you… What I’m about to do is going to reveal not only things of the present, but the past, and perhaps the future as well. Things we might not wish for others to know. But this is the only way of getting that breakthrough you need. So whatever secrets you may have could very well be revealed. The three of us are about to learn a lot about one another. So we had better prepare.”
Bella thought back to her time with Edward, Jacob, and the Cullens and cringed. That wasn’t a side she wanted Erik or Charles to see. She felt so foolish. But it was nowhere near the regrets Erik was feeling… He and Charles locked eyes for a moment.
“You know I can’t…” Erik muttered looking somewhat ill.
“If you want the truth you have no choice.”
“The truth could destroy us.” When he said this Charles knew he meant him and Bella.
“Or it could help her to have a better understanding. You never know unless you put yourself out there and see what comes of it.”
Bella regarded Erik in wonder.
“Charles…” Erik warned.
“And what have you? Do you honestly believe she won’t find out eventually?”
“Um hello, I’m right here.”
“There will be no living with her after this!”
For whatever reason that had Charles laughing. Erik cut him a glance and he cleared his throat.
“Yes well… Shall we get started then?”
“I don’t particularly like you at the moment.” Erik spat.
“So it’s just like any other day…”
Charles had them hold hands and he placed his over theirs.
“Bella, if it becomes too much for you, let me know. The child is our first concern.”
“You called me Bella!”
Charles managed to laugh.
“That I did…”
“Then you can stop with the Miss. Swan crap now.”
“I shall do my best to keep that in mind.”
“Let’s just get this over with.” Erik snapped causing Bella and Charles to cut him a look.
Charles sighed and closed his eyes then put his fingers to his temple so he could begin…
